    All:

I have been playing around with our cabin heater for 6 months.

Status now is that it will light off on the ground every time, but will only light off in the air if the gear is down. I have checked everything I can think of, I need some good ideas AND I need a recommendation for a mechanic who actually knows this heater in Florida or the southeast.

I called Sandy at C and D (aircraftheater.com) and he said the fuel pump/combustion fan needs an overhaul. The whole system was overhauled in 2006, but only has 35 hours on the Hobbs!

When it does heat, it really heats!

    Help!

    Butch

P.S. Otherwise we are really loving our new twin Cessna.

    Butch,

I’ll gave you the same recommendation that I gave Jack last weekend.

Remove your Southwind. Relocate it to the nearest dumpster.

Buy a C&D heater and install in its place. πŸ™‚

You could probably sell your Southwind to someone else to help offset the cost.

      Butch,
I did put a fuel pump in last week but have not had a
Chance to fly it yet. When a got the old pump out it fell apart in my hands.
I did check on overhauling my south wind but I
can install a new c&d for about 800.00 more
Its kind of a no brainer.
I plan on putting a c&d in the fall.

You won’t regret it. Mine will get the cabin hot enough to cook a turkey.

I’ll be happy if my wife’s feet are warm!

      Thanks,

If anybody knows of a good mechanic in Florida that can work on Southwind heaters, please let me know.

I have had issues with my south wind but seem to have them fixed for the moment. What does the C$D cost for the 310? Can not seem to find this info out on C & d’s website

Send your Southwind to these guys. I loved mine… It’s cold up here.

I have used Harold Haskins for many years and he is in Alabama.

Bill, I’d give them a call. The C&D was installed by the previous owner. Roasts you out! πŸ™‚

I was quoted about $4,800 for a C&D heater installed in michigan. Less if it was shipped to a qualified mechanic for install (then add labor to install) but I think overall that’s a good ball park figure.

We really like our new C&D heater, installed by Tony at TAS. We went for the electronic thermostat and we really like that as well.

We’re now ready for cold winter weather in Florida.
