I am wondering if any other TCF members have eperienced cracked rims on their C340’s? In the past 8 months, both main landing gear wheels have split from what looks like fatiged aluminum. The crack propagates radially for about 4″.
If you had the old Mccauley wheel, you can expect them to crack anytime which is why they are not made anymore. The Mccauley wheels had the six Allenhead bolts holding the three piece wheels together. It is best to throw them away and bite the bullet for the Clevelands. Clevelands are two piece wheels with thru bolts, not threaded in the center-piece bolts.
If you had Cleveland wheels then you have other problems. It is possible someone used the wrong tools to separate the wheel halves for tire change and put a deep groove in the rim which later led to a crack.
