Has anyone ever had an engine fire that they were alerted to by the fire warning system found on some of our cabin class airplanes (temp probe in the engine compartment and light on the annunciator panel)? In other words, you didn’t know about the fire until you saw the light.
One of our members had the temp probe go out on his 421 and Cessna wants $6,100 for a new one. They are not mandatory so the question is, what is the risk of flying with one inop? He thinks, not much ….. but wants to know what the experience of our members has been.
